Hi, I'm

Moritz Bengel

Full Stack Developer

I craft modern web applications with clean code and emerging technologies ...
... fueled by curiosity and coffee ☕

About Me

I'm a Full Stack Developer working as a Software Engineer at Deutsche Telekom, where I build backend services with Java and Spring Boot, work with a hint of Go, get hands-on with DevOps practices, and mentor a trainee. In my free time, I like to explore Go and Python, and enjoy self-hosting my own services.

The same instinct that has me chasing new frameworks shows up off-screen too, whether that means hiking a new trail, learning a new deck, or dialing in a new brew.

Coffee

Always chasing the perfect pour-over.

Hiking

Happiest on a trail, rain or shine.

Trading Card Games

Deep into Commander deckbuilding. See below ↓

Self-Hosting

Running my own services at home, from media to monitoring.

Things I've Built

EDH Deckbuilder Agent

A Python AI agent that automates Magic: The Gathering Commander deckbuilding. It talks to a self-hosted LLM over an OpenAI-compatible endpoint, pulls live card data and pricing from the Scryfall API, and streams its reasoning back over SSE while respecting budget constraints and commander legality.

YipYip Crew

Team website for YipYip Crew, a small Magic: The Gathering team. Built with Astro and content-managed through Decap CMS, so teammates can update their own player profiles without touching code.

NixOS Homelab

A self-hosted homelab running on NixOS with a full deploy-rs pipeline, currently growing from a single node into a 3-node k3s HA cluster. Traefik handles ingress, kube-vip covers control-plane networking, and FluxCD runs GitOps on top.
